High-impact leaders plan. Planning requires expertise. The intricate formats and information required are important to benchmark for analysis. The role of a leader is to develop a business plan to propose a course of action. How strong the business plan is will determine its success.

The business plan must lay-out the considerations of the present and build a vision of the future expectations if implemented. One answer to this complex question is that business plans only are as strong as the visionary. If the leader is not informed on a particular point it will be omitted from the plan. This could cause a serious problem in the organization later on because of a lack of foresight. For example, in creating a website a lay-out of the web pages must be constructed. This is necessary in order to build links and other pages to the site later on. In this example, if the columns were chosen to be only two but three were needed later on this could create a snag in the future development of the site. Therefore, the executive making the decisions needs to understand what the website will be used for in the future as well as present considerations.

Experience is a mechanism that assists in decision making and compliments business planning. Again, using the example of the web design. When someone understands HTML and CSS then writing script is easier than someone only knowing text. Therefore, leaders who are seasoned and experienced usually make better planners.

The end goal of a strong business plan is to have results. Measurable and attainable results. How does the business plan propose to answer the questions of what will the outcome by if this is done? What should be done when this happens and why is this important needs to be answered.
